Application

Variostar is applied onto the Strikotherm insulation system 200 and non-insulated Strikocem systems as decorative plaster finishing with a regular granular surface.

Properties (discription)

This low-maintenance plaster is scratch-proof and chip-proof, remaining malleable and very easy to work.

Advice/application

Mix dry Variostar with approx. 7.5 litres of clean tap-water per 25 kg bag, into a lump-free, homogenous mass.
Variostar should be applied to the backing by traditional methods. A tight coat to the thickness of the largest aggregate within the material is applied using a stainless steel hawk and trowel.
A flowing edge should be maintained. Do not interrupt application until a complete section is finished. Leave for approximately 10-20 minutes, depending on drying conditions, the ProRend Variostar is finished by rubbing with a smooth plastic float also a tiling sponge to fill joints and a EPS float is used in either horizontal, vertical or circular strokes. Do not mix with any foreign additives. Clean tools directly after use with water.

Mineral mortars after drying could have calcium-silicate ‘bleedings'.
These bleedings will show off as white spots. These bleedings will not effect the technical condition of the system/plaster, and will normally disappear after some time. To prevend this from happening the Variostar can be painted over with Peents Pearlcoat.

There also needs to be explained that is is favourable to paint Variostar when it is in colour and/or constantly influenced by weather-conditions. This way there will be an excellent water vapourbillity in combination with water repellance. Mineral mortars have a higher water absorption, because of this it stays longer wet then for example Silicon based resins/decorative plasters. Because of this there is a longer time for ‘dirt' to stick onto the Variostar. The Variostar has some sort of self cleaning properties, but it wil look dirty sooner  then Silicone based Resins, especially when it's wet (outside). Painted with a Pearlcoat it will be water repellent, extremely breathable, and will be achieved a very favourable system on a long run (esthticly and technically).
